Logitech MX3100 Cordless Desktop Review

Document Actions

This was a great pleasure to do a review of this keyboard and mouse set.

I've found a keyboard that I must say performs well with or without the included software.

The MX3100 also works under Linux(Mephis,Kubuntu,)(Klax had problems with mouse).

All in all this was a better keyboard then the Microsoft optical Desktop with finger print scanner I had a chance to review at least in this users mind.

Whats in the MX3100 kit:

  • MX 3100 cordless keyboard
  • MX 1000 Laser Mouse
  • usb/ps/2 receiver with recharging cradle for mouse
  • usb to ps/2 adapter
  • two AA alkaline batteries
  • AC power adapter
  • cd with software, comfort guidelines and help center
  • Quick start guide

5-year limited hardware warranty

System Requirements:

IBM compatible PC

Windows 98SE,2000,ME,XP(linux)

1 usb port or 2 ps/2 ports

CD-Rom drive

Keyboard Features:

Multimedia keys abound(inav, internet radio control, volume, mail,my docs etc) and with the software all are available but some work in XP with out the software

spillproof

zero tilt

Mouse Features:

M1000 Laser optical mouse

Rechargeable

Illuminated 4-level battery indicator

Application Switch

Internet Forward/Back

Cruise Controlâ„¢ buttons

Tilt Wheel Plus Zoom

Right-Handed Comfort Grip

Ease of use:

I find the MX3100 a pleasure to use it works well with or without the software.

Under Linux you can't use the software anyway and it works fine no problems at all.

Klax is he only one that had a problem with the mouse the keyboard worked well.

This is by far the unit to get if you want a wireless keyboard.

I've been using the mouse and keyboard on and off with little charging of the mouse if any and haven't seen it respond badly at all it is dead on .

Gaming goes very well for me I'm no pro at Quake but I love that the cord doesn't get in the way anymore.

No lag that I could tell.

The feel of the keys and the mouse is better in my view then the Microsoft Optical Desktop with thumb print scanner.

Pros:

Wireless

Good key feel

Easy to take with you to the lan.

Best wireless optical mouse for gaming thus far.

Good battery life in Keyboard and rechargable mouse.

Power block is made to not hog up two or more plug areas on your power bar

Cons:

Wrist rest feels cheap and too bendable

Software that loads up at startup.

no linux support or driver as yet but it works under linux

Would love to see the macros built in to the keyboard and no software needed

more pictures will be uploaded soon
