Liteon SOHC-5232KX Combo Drive ReviewLiteon SOHC-5232KX Combo DriveWe would like to thank Liteon for this unit. This unit is a external usb dvd/cd-r/rw drive. The unit is all black and is really quite sharp . We will be using it as our only cd-rom drive to test it out in the real world use and not as a portable drive which it is. This will help us give it the shake down so to speak . So with that now onto the rest. Specs:
Features:external usb dvd/cd combo drive.fast access time and high data transfer ratesSmart-Burn for efficient recording:minimizes buffer under run conditionsSmart -X to get the fastest cd-da/vcd/dvd data extraction speedpower saving modeflash rom supports upgrade online Package includes:
Package shots:(will be reposted shortly)
Usage:The unit was and up until a short while ago was a stable in our testing of Linux Distros on other computers. it performed well and did it's job very quietly . It was a tad slower then a internal cd-burner but made cd's with out a error and at a fair speed. The fact that the unit operated and was a first for us to use a drive in vertical mode (it also had a drive tray that held the cd's in very well when you ejected them in this mode). It ran fast worked well we would tell you to go out and buy it cause it just works. I was able to boot one linux distro from it useing the unit as the only cd drive in the computer . I was able to install to hard drive with out any errors it was a very great thing at one point when our internal burner was needed else wheres. Pros:Ouiet and fast Colour that goes with most cases and uses a interface that everyone should have now. Portable Small and light (for a external drive that is ;just a tab bit more then a external dual floppy)
Cons:Well the only one I could think of is that it's not a dvd writer yet.
We thank Liteon for sending use this unit for review and look forward to seeing more items from them.
