mini interview with Ultra makers of the X-Connect power supply .
First let us say thank you to Miss Malsert Chapmanof Ultra Products for the interview.
1. One, I like to know from a user point of view you are a newer company to some of us can you tell us about your company.
Ultra is a manufacturer of computer components, supplies, and accessories for end users and solution providers. Our power supplies, memory, and UV-gear in particular are very attractive to you, the modding community because of their unique design, quality, and affordability. We also have many other offerings, including: cases, cables, cooling products, MP3 players and more. The X-Connect Power Supply from Ultra is the first company manufactured fully modular PSU out there, and it has positioned Ultra as an innovative newcomer who is committed to bringing our customers added value through our unique products, quality manufacturing and support. We have a forum on UltraProducts.com, and we pride ourselves on great customer support and careful attention to customer demand.
2. What made you come up with the Ultra X-Connect power supply?;
Do you have an ear in the modding community or are you just modders yourself???
I wouldn't say we are modders ourselves, but more like innovators in our industry. We realize and respect that many brilliant concepts implemented throughout the PC industry have their roots in the modding community, because like the end users, the Ultra team is always looking for ways to improve upon existing technologies to make them more performance enhanced, user friendly, and aesthetically pleasing. This was the case with the X-Connect, which took one year from start to finish. We hope that modular will hopefully become the industry standard a few years down the road. Expanding on that thought, we are always listening to ideas from our customers and we will continue to build things that most people haven't seen or seen done well before.
3.What can we expect to see from you in the future (that you can say)???
Well, we are coming out with some new cases in the next months as well as expanding our memory offering substantially with high-performance DDR2 and overclocking modules that will appeal more to modders.
4) With all the companies jumping onto the modding craze how far into the future do you see your company and the whole scene going and it's future.
Modding is here to stay because there is always room for improvement especially when technology has such a phenomenal cycle time. Things come and go so quickly and become passé overnight. Companies are always chasing the next big idea. I believe that Ultra will continue to be an innovator because that's what we enjoy doing. The success of the X-Connect especially and the excitement shown by industry analysts and editors, reviewers and customers encouraged us to go straight back to the drawing board and make more improvements on existing products as well as dream up new ones.
5) Will you get into the video card/motherboard market (any hardware etc)???
Those markets are flooded with a lot of well-established companies, and we are more interested in making funkier things like cases.
6) If we ask you what you would like to see happen to the computer industry as a whole???
I would like to see modding become a more common practice. Rather than traditional business computers, all computers should be not necessarily flashy, but good-looking and functional, like an awesome looking multimedia computer that appeals to everyone and has all types of cutting edge applications/technology. Why not add flare to the everyday.
7) Do you see anything coming down the line in the modding area or computer industry that will shock us and change the industry?
Well in the industry as a whole, I can’t be sure…but you will definitely be seeing some shocking new things from Ultra in the coming year. Sorry that I can’t elaborate.
8) Will you get into networking hardware??
We don’t have plans to expand into networking hardware.
9) What would you like to see in the future for all hardware and modding???
I would like to see more availability in the market place. For example, I have been contacted by a kid in Romania desperately trying to buy UV Cold Cathode Tubes for his rig because they weren’t available in his country.
10) Will you offer any services in the future (modding of cases, psu, etc)???
No, our focus is supplying to end users who already have great vision and talent by doing their own mods.
