Interview with klipschCan you tell us about yourself and your company???I joined Klipsch in the summer of 2000 as a ProMedia Tech Support Representative. My position for the past 2 years has been Web/Multimedia Specialist. Basically, I am involved in the development and support of our ProMedia line, and I'm also responsible for the content of our product pages on the website. Another title I carry is Administrator of the Klipsch Forum, which is 20,600 members and 525,000 posts strong. Since 1946, Klipsch has remained true to its founder's vision of producing no-compromise, premium-quality audio products. As one of the first American loudspeaker companies, Klipsch continues to be the high-performance brand of choice for audiophiles and music lovers around the world. It is the official loudspeaker of every Hard Rock Cafe and thousands of movie theaters globally prefer Klipsch professional cinema speakers. With a cult-status following of dedicated fans, Klipsch is acclaimed for excellence in reproducing power, detail and emotion. We make your entertainment more entertaining. In 1999, Klipsch entered the multimedia/gaming market with the ProMedia v.2-400, which truly revolutionized sound reproduction and drove the performance bar to a level never before attempted by competitors. What should a computer user be looking for in speakers if they want to watch dvd's play games with eax etc????To utilize EAX surround sound, the user would need to invest in a good 6 channel analog computer systems, such as our Ultra 5.1. EAX is not passed through the digital output of a soundcard, so onboard digital decoder would not be used on a "digital" audio system. With this setup, the user would also need software capable of digital decoding for DVD movies, for instance PowerDVD or WinDVD. What if they only have on board audio like Via's Digital Vinyl or Intel's HD audio etc???If the user would like to use the digital output of their computer, they would need an external digital decoder, such as the one included in out GMX D-5.1 system. What products would you guide a user to if they are on a budget???Klipsch speakers are often more expensive than the competition. We make high-performance products using the highest-quality materials and our research and design process is extensive. If budget is your biggest concern, start small and work your way up. A high quality 2.1 system can be surprisingly dynamic and more entertaining than a low-quality, poor performance surround system. A good example of this is our GMX A-2.1 system. How can we get the best sound from your products???Proper soundcard settings is key, as well as a quality soundcard, and the placement of the subwoofer and satellites. Subwoofers sound best when placed in a corner. Front satellites are recommended to be as far away from your monitor as you are in the listening position. Surround speakers will depend largely on space limitations and personal preference. Ear-level is ideal. What is your warranty policy???Klipsch warrants Multimedia products to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase. You can read the details of our warranty policy on our website atwww.klipsch.com under Customer Service. How can a user care for your products???Common sense, really. If they are not used for extended periods of time, turn them off. Don't drive them at or beyond their limits for extended periods of time. Don't unplug any connections while the power is on. Clean with a dry cloth. Do not submerse in water. :) How do you test your speakers???Our engineers perform months of testing on products before they are released. These range from personal listening tests to curve testing with special audio equipment. Once they get the specs and the sound on target, we have "specialists" do the voicing, which essentially means tweaking the values for the best possible sound in the environment in which the speakers were designed. We then have beta-testers taking pre-released products home and providing feedback. And of course, there are the safety standards, FCC, and stress testing all of our products go through. What new products that you are able to talk about should we be looking for??We constantly have new ideas that we explore. However, I'm not at liberty to comment specifically at this time :) Why should a user choose you over say Logitech or Creative???I think a better question is what draws a customer to Klipsch over other brands. Most speaker companies have specific elements of sound reproduction at which they excel, and Klipsch is particularly known for power, detail and emotion. Our speakers are also highly efficient, resulting in less need for large current which improves reliability. We also utilize broad dynamics for an explosive, more "life-like" performance. What should someone thats new to computer etc look for in a speaker system??Fun. It's not so much about a technology story or any feature, but about how the speakers make the user feel. What do you use as a guide line for helping a end user pick the speaker setup that's right for them???It depends on their budget, space limitations, and how they are going to use the speakers--DVDs, gaming, music? Connected to what device--laptop, computer, TV, mp3 player, portable CD? What is their personal preference for sound--clarity? Thumping bass? Loudness? Since there is such a wide range of factors, we are here to help. I encourage anyone to write or speak to our customer support staff-- they can find our contact information at www.klipsch.com Could you walk us through the building of a promedia speaker system???In a nutshell, we have a concept phase where the Product Development and Sales teams work together on a system that fits a certain category for market demand. Then our ID team comes up with several design concepts to choose from. Those drawings are given to our Mechanical Engineers, Electronic Engineers, and Acoustic Engineers to see how they can make it work and meet the spec/sound requirements. Once that is complete, the systems are built to those specs, tested, tweaked, and eventually shipped our mass retail partners and direct to consumers. Vague, I know, but we can't give out all of our secrets! what other issues affect speaker performance??Environment -- is your room "sound friendly?" Electrical interference can cause problems with some set-ups, such as ground loop hum from fluorescent lighting, dimmer switches, other electronic devices. Children and small animals also like to plug up subwoofer port holes, so be sure to check for that. :) Bent, loose, or damaged wires can also cause problems, as well as wires that are improperly connected. What sound card do you use in your system ????I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy. what sound card would you as a company recommend to a user ???We do not recommend any one soundcard. It will be unique to an individual's needs and how they use sound from their computer. We thank you and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you! |
