FPS Creator/Rick VannerCould you tell us about yourself and your company? We are a small team of software developers who specialise in making games creation tools. After working for software publishers during the 90s we started up our company in later 1999 and have not looked back since. Our first success was Dark Basic, a game creation product based on the Basic programming language. We then created The 3D Gamemaker for SCi in the UK and this gave us the idea for FPS Creator. We have a massive online community of users who all work together to create the games they want to play and share.
Will you be making a Linux version of 3d FPS creator? No, this is not in our plans right now, we only program for Windows and Direct X.
What other platforms besides Windows will you be supporting?None for now. We are a small team and it takes all our resources just to do this.
Will there be more packs(themes) released after sales are in the green??Certainly! We have a modern day pack due for release soon. All our Early Adopter users will get this free and we will offer it as a download only title from our web site. Itll just install and the files will be available from the segment and entity selector.
What types of images are able to be imported into 3d FPS creator?Image formats supported include bmp, tga, dds and png.
What types of audio are we able to import for the games we create?Wave and Ogg Vorbis files can be used for audio
What else can be made with the built in editor ;can new types of weapons etc be created from the models included?Everything is completely customisable and you can change weapons and other entities in whatever way you like for example, you can alter the accuracy and damage level of a weapon.
Can audio be edited within to create custom sound effects? There is no specific functionality for MMORPG style games but it is possible to write your own scripts to handle certain events like character talking to each other and having inventories etc.
Can open end worlds like a MMORPG fps be made with 3d FPS creator? There is no specific functionality for MMORPG style games but it is possible to write your own scripts to handle certain events like character talking to each other and having inventories etc.
What are the limits of level design?FPS Creator is very open ended so it is possible to create any style of FPS game you like. Currently WW2 and sci-fi themes are included and a new model pack will soon be released that contains modern day objects. You can also create and import your own models to create any kind of style you like.
Will it support open gl?There are no plans to support OpenGL.
What is the hardware requirements to run 3d FPS creator? The minimum requirements for FPS Creator are Windows 2000 or Windows XP, a Pentium III 1 ghz processor, 512 mb ram, DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with 64 mb memory and 1.4 gb hard drive space. Multi player games require a broadband connection.
Will 3d FPS creator exploit higher end hardware that is present in the game makers PC to make the game play /creation better?FPS Creator can use vertex and pixel shaders on hardware that supports it.
Will 3d FPS creator support 64 bit Intel and AMD64 extensions??64 bit extensions are currently not supported.
Can the end user import 3d Studio Max objects or Lightwave into 3d FPS creator?Models can be imported into FPS Creator from 3D Studio Max and Lightwave as long as they have been converted into the DirectX file format ( *.x ).
If no Linux support is planned as of yet would you work with the Wine project to help getting it running under Linux via wine emulator?Linux support is not planned but if there is some way we can get FPS Creator running on an emulator it is something we would look at.
We thank you for your time and can't wait to see your product .
