System Review Run On

I installed and used the given software on a machine that may sound out of date but has many upsides to a brand new machine. Many people don’t have the time nor the money to invest in some people’s gaming systems that can easily top $2,000 +.

OS Debian Linux Sid/Unstable Distribution Kernel 2.6.12.2 Cpu Amd XP 2400+ 2.0 Ghz MB VIA KM266 Memory 1 gig of Pc2100 DDR DVD-Rom Memorex DVD+RW/+R Harddrives 2, 40 Gig Maxtor 7200rpm Video Card GeFORCE FX 5500 Agp 128mb DDR Network Netgear 10/100/1000 PCI Nic Sound Creative SoundBlaster 16PCI

-=Introduction=-

When my co-reviewer informed me I was going to get a copy of this software to review I almost jumped with joy. I have used the predecessor WineX on my Slackware system to play Half Life, Counter Strike, Diablo 2, and various other games. I found it to be more than worth the money I spent to get my first copy of it. I would say the goal of the company is to provide a program for those users who run Linux, the option to use Windows based game.

-=Installation=-

Since I am running Debian I can easily install the .Deb files. Other File types available are RPM for Redhat users and TAR for various other distros. With the new program named correctly Point2Play, it is very simple to install a game. Insert your game into the Cdrom/Dvdrom drive and mount it. Bring up your Point2Play software and select your mounted drive and select either setup.exe, autorun.exe, or the program to install the game. Add a name in the box so you know what you have installed. There are various settings that can be configured but out of 20 games I have installed I have not needed to reconfigure it from the defaults. After you have installed the game, just select the name of the game and hit Play, and now your game will start and you can configure your game to your liking.

-=Games Played=-

Some games I have played with this software, but please note not all of them may be 100% supported yet.

Steam software from Valve for online play Half Life Half Life 1 Source Half Life 2 Counter Strike Counter Strike Source Battlefield 1942 Battlefield Vietnam Battlefield 1942 The Road to Rome Battlefield Secret Weapons of WW2 Never Winter Nights Platinum Diablo Diablo Hellfire Diablo 2 Diablo 2 Lords Of Destruction Empire Earth Empire Earth 2 And many more

-=Game Play=-

I played many games but one of the most commonly used games is Counter Strike 1.6 used in conjunction with the program Steam. The game play in Counter Strike was excellent and almost perfectly played online on the servers at www.Dallas247.net. The only complaint I have is that when I tried to use the program teamspeak2 and Counter Strike I had to choose 1 since my sound card didn’t support running them both at the same time, probably since my sound card is a few years old. Other than this minor problem it was worth all the time I spent fiddling with it.

-=Was it Worth it=-

You might ask me was it worth it? Should I spend my money on this software? If you ask me I would send you a direct link to the site and say subscribe to it. No, I am not saying all this to make my review or the site I have posted on get “Brownie Points,” I am saying this because it is hard to find good programs that have EXCELENT tech support. I email tech support various times about my Team speak issues while running it with Steam. The issue was taken care of Ultra Fast and with great care. The tech support is very knowledgeable about their software and quickly had me back playing.

-=Summary=-

I am impressed with TransGaming and all their employees, programmers, and beta testers. With so many new games coming out so fast and so many old games people like to play, I would in conclusion say this program works almost flawless. Some programs might not be supported yet but most likely will be soon. I would like to see more support for Open GL and more games.

-=Conclusion=-

Ratings go from 1 being the worst to 10 being Perfect.

Cost 10/10 User Friendly 9/10 Installation 9/10 Game Database 9/10 Performance 10/10 Stability 9/10 Technology 8/10

Overall Score 64/70

Pros: Was easy to install and use Fast game installs User Friendly Interface

Cons: Still sounds like Wine to me Didn’t like when I tried to install Xfire

-=Various Notes=-

My system is not the most up to date or as expensive as some systems other users will be using so performance may vary.

Since my Debian Distribution is SID “short for Still in Development.” This means my distro is constantly being updated and changed. If you are running a different distro as is Slackware or Redhat you might have some issues I have not discussed in this review.

I installed with a Nvidia Graphs card, I have no idea what issues you might run into if you have an ATI card or other cards.

Thanks for Reading my Review and I hope this will get many more people to consider using this awesome software.
